“Did you know there’s a free program that helps YOUR child succeed?”
– Carolina Hernandez, Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program Manager

Parents As Teachers Program
It was a busy and inspiring month for Children's Hope's Parents as Teachers (PAT) program as team members connected with families throughout the community at several outreach events.
During May, Carolina Hernandez, Araceli Lopez, and Theresa Hughes participated in the Yuba County Community Baby Shower, the Sutter County Community Baby Shower, and Children's Home Society's Resource Fair. These events provided wonderful opportunities to meet parents, answer questions, share resources, and introduce families to the support available through Parents as Teachers.
The response was incredibly encouraging.
Many parents and caregivers stopped by to learn more about the program, ask questions, and explore ways to support their children's growth and development. Each conversation served as a reminder that parenting can be both rewarding and challenging—and that every family deserves encouragement, support, and someone in their corner.
At the heart of the Parents as Teachers program is a simple belief:
Your child was born to learn, and you are their most important teacher.
How Does the Program Work?
Parents as Teachers helps parents and caregivers build confidence in that role by providing personalized support, practical resources, and trusted guidance.
Through regular home visits, families are matched with a caring Parent Educator who takes the time to listen, answer questions, and provide information tailored to their family's unique needs.
During visits, Parent Educators may:
- Share fun ways to help children learn through everyday play
- Provide activities, games, books, and materials for families to enjoy together
- Offer information about child development and developmental milestones
- Celebrate successes and provide encouragement during challenging moments
Most importantly, Parents as Teachers meets families where they are.
There is no "perfect" parent, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to raising children.
Whether you are expecting your first child, navigating the toddler years, or simply looking for additional support, the program is designed to walk alongside you on your parenting journey.
The dedication, compassion, and professionalism demonstrated by Carolina, Araceli, and Theresa Hughes throughout May's events helped create meaningful connections with families and increase awareness of this valuable community resource.
